What we do in Africa

We provide a range of mobile services. Driven by the lack of fixed broadband access and by increased smartphone penetration, the demand for mobile data is growing rapidly. Together with Vodacom’s VodaPay super-app and the M-PESA payment platform, we are the leading provider of financial services, as well as business and merchant services, in Africa.

Access and affordability

We view connectivity as a lifeline, not a luxury. This is why we are committed to accelerating access to our services at an affordable cost.

Financial services

Through our M-PESA payment platform and Vodacom’s VodaPay super-app, we have empowered 73 million users, to make safe financial transactions using their mobile phones.

Enterprise and jobs

By providing a full suite of mobile and fixed line connectivity services, our technology supports African businesses of all sizes.

Education and digital literacy

It is our goal to improve access to education across the continent by developing a range of digital education services such as Vodacom’s eSchool, which has over 1.4 million registered users.

Health and social care

We are using our technology to deliver a range of digital health solutions, including our Mum & Baby parental advice service used by more than 2 million women.

Financial and operational performance

Total revenue increased by 5.4% driven by service revenue growth and higher equipment sales. On an organic basis, Vodacom’s service revenue grew by 3.5% with growth in both South Africa and Vodacom’s international markets.
